Reena Atuma is a Health Economist and Sociologist specializing in health financing and policy, gender-responsive budgeting, and policy and advocacy communication. She works with the Population Reference Bureau (PRB) as a health system strengthening specialist. She has over seven years of experience working on analysis of public budget and policy analysis. Atuma has worked in the public finance management field, with expertise in analyzing national and sub-national health budgets, policy communication skills, and using gender data to inform budgetary allocations. Reena holds a bachelor’s degree in sociology with information technology from Maseno University, a certificate in capacity development from DiploFoundation, and a certificate in public finance management from the International Monetary Fund. She is pursuing a master’s in health economics and policy at the University of Nairobi.
Reena extends her technical skills through the USAID Stawisha Pwani project to the Coast Regional Budget Hub, supporting communities, elected officials, policymakers, and implementers in enhancing their skills in integrating gender data into budget formation, supporting health departments with strategies to allocate and utilize resources, and using policy communication skills for evidence-based advocacy
